New Acid Tolerant Rhizobia Strains Released For 2024

Two new strains of Rhizobia will be added to your inoculant choice for the 2024 season. They will be added into the groups E and F inoculants, meaning the two groups will again be split for next season.

Group E will cover field peas, lentils and vetch. And Group F will cover Faba Beans and Broad Beans. These new strains have the ability to provide optimal nodulation in soils from pHCa5.5 down to pHCa5.

Group E has even showed improved nodulation down to PhCa4.6 and Group F as low as pHCa4.5, a massive improvement over the old strains.
The inoculant has been trialled in several GRDC trials in acid soils with some impressive results. The new group E rhizobia strain was able to achieve an average increase of 30% in plant nodulation, which equated to an increased Nitrogen fixation of 15%.

The new Group F strain showed even better results, with a 65% increase in nodulation accompanied by a 24% increase in Nitrogen fixation. The new products deliver the same effectiveness on soils in the more neutral and alkaline pH as the existing product. This improvement presents considerable value with significant savings on Nitrogen application in acidic soils.
