Heads Up: Grain Residues 2019

Heads Up: Grain Residues will need to be watched this year.

Just a reminder for those thinking about applying a squirt of glyph to spray-top their barley this year – don’t.

The 2016 permit that allowed 2L/ha of Weedmaster DST or 1.7L/ha of Weedmaster Argo to be used to spray-top of annual grass weeds in barley has now expired. This means that no glyphosate is registered and it cannot be used to spraytop any barley sold into the system.
Nufarm is not going to seek another permit for their glyph products. However, they have passed all their results onto the GRDC, who will hopefully try to get a similar permit in place. So, keep an ear out during the next month or so.

Also, Viterra have now purchased a machine to check residues in grain samples in Adelaide. This means they will have access to more tests and a quicker turn around on results. Recently, they’ve picked up on haloxyfop and paraquat in canola samples, and glyphosate in malting barley and durum wheat.
This year we can’t stress enough for you to follow the label. Adhere to what is registered, and you’ll have no issues.
