Alion: Bayer’s new fence line spray we’ve been waiting for!

Alion: Bayer’s new fence line spray we’ve been waiting for!

Great news! The registration for Bayer’s Alion is finally through, and we should see the product in store in early July.

Get ready for the arrival of Alion, a brilliant new residual fence line product that we’ve been eagerly anticipating. If you haven’t heard about it yet, you’re in for a treat.

It consists of 500g/L of Indaziflam, a new group (Group 29) of herbicides, and hasn’t been used on fence lines or in crops before. This unique active ensures effective weed control with excellent residue control. Check out our trials from last year below.

For best results, Alion needs to be applied to bare earth and followed up with rainfall within three weeks. In the right conditions, it can give up to 10 months residual and longer, keeping your fence lines clean throughout the year. With a massive list of weeds controlled, including grasses, marshmallows, and thistles, it is going to be a great option. However, its weakness is weeds that come from a bulb, such as soursob.

One of the many reasons to use Alion with confidence is its safety. It’s not just safe on trees; it’s safe enough that it’s registered for use under almond and citrus trees and vines. There’s no need to worry about turning off the sprayer when you pass them.

With a low use rate of only 150ml/ha, using Alion is a breeze. Just remember to ALWAYS add Alion to the spray tank first and agitate well before adding knockdown products such as Glyphosate or Paraquat. At the 150ml rate, a 1L pack size will allow you to spray 33 km of fence line at a 2m width.

Ideally, the plan would be to spray fencelines while they are bare in early April before you get busy seeding and a follow-up rain comes to incorporate and activate the Alion.

Alion’s pricing puts it slightly in the premium category, but given most fence line options are knockdowns, its residual capability makes this product extremely efficient and cost effective. Also, compared to other residual alternatives, it’s much more user friendly given it’s lower use rate and compatibility with other chemicals.

If this new product sounds like it is something that might work at your place, give us a call, we are currently taking orders 😊
