Thistrol Gold is Nufarm’s new herbicide for clover, medic, and grass pastures to control broadleaf weeds. It can be applied from the two trifoliate leaf stages in clover and medic with excellent crop safety, meaning it doesn’t hold back the crop as some other brews can. Controlling a range of broadleaf weeds early and effectively with excellent crop safety can lock in gains to clover, medic and grass pasture quantity and quality. Plus, the flexible use rates and ability to tank-mix with insecticide make Thistrol Gold the perfect one drum pasture solution.
What’s in it?
Thistrol Gold has a unique triple active ingredient combination of MCPB, MCPA, and Flumetsulam.
MCPB (300g/L) – which makes up most of the product- delivers a high phenoxy dose to weeds to maximise control while maintaining pasture safety and improving pasture quality. It’s unusual because it has very little primary herbicidal activity itself. Instead, MCPB undergoes beta-oxidation within weeds and converts to MCPA, which is immediately toxic to the plants. The beta-oxidation process is inefficient in legume species such as clover and medic, particularly at early growth stages. So you can use a robust rate on young pastures and achieve effective weed control without compromising pasture production.
MCPA (20g/L) – kick-starts the MCPB ß-oxidation process, delivering reliability in adverse conditions, a historical challenge with straight MCPB formulations.
Flumetsulam (10g/L) – (aka Broadstrike) provides a second Mode of Action and complimentary weed activity, helping deliver a broader weed spectrum and even greater reliability without compromising the safety of the overall formulation.
Usage:
Recommended rates vary between 2 – 4L/ ha depending on the weed spectrum, with the best control achieved on small, actively growing plants.
Use with a Hasten/Banjo type product.
It has a rainfast period of 6 hours and a 7-day grazing withholding period, meaning after one week, you can get the stock back onto the paddock.
What can I use it on?:
Clovers:
Arrowleaf clover, Balansa clover, Persian clover, Rose clover, Strawberry clover, Subterranean clover and White clover.
Note: Thistrol Gold can cause transient crop effects (leaf spotting and biomass reduction). Recovery is expected with good growing conditions.
Medics:
Barrel medic, Snail medic, Spineless burr medic, and Strand medic.
Note: DO NOT apply more than 2 L/ha to medic crops.
Thistrol Gold can cause transient crop effects (leaf spotting and biomass reduction). Medic crops should be treated early, and delays in application could result in crops having insufficient time to recover from the temporary pause in growth using this product. Medic crops are also sensitive to environmental stress, which can compound stress and biomass recovery caused by Thistrol Gold.
Grasses:
Italian ryegrass, Perennial ryegrass, Cocksfoot, Tall fescue, and Phalaris. Note: Barley and Oats are sensitive, and severe transient stem shortening and crop discolouration may occur. Application before Z21 to Wheat, Barley or Oats is likely to cause biomass reduction.
